Key leadership qualities
The educational leadership model (ELM) identifies four qualities that underpin a leader’s ability to improve teaching and learning outcomes in their school:

• manaakitanga – leading with moral purpose;
  
• pono – having self-belief;
  
• ako – being a learner;
  
• āwhinatanga – guiding and supporting.
